Travel Log: Reno, NV

Flew out west to lead a business training this week. Flying is interesting, isn’t it? I’m not a fan of shoe-less body scans or lugging a 50-lb laptop bag through crowded airport terminals, but I love that moment when the plane breaches the cloud line and the whole world disappears. It makes me feel free, even though I’m trapped in a shiny metal tube with wings.

There are no direct flights to Reno from any airport remotely close to my home, so I chose to fly through Denver on the way there and through Chicago on the way back. Although the company offered to put me up at the incredibly gorgeous Peppermill Casino Resort, I chose to stay in the one and only non-smoking hotel in the city for the sake of my respiratory health. I’ll admit – I felt a twinge of regret when I saw the casino’s heated outdoor pool complete with waterfall during a break in our meetings. Dinner and drinks were served at Edge; we had the place to ourselves and it was a great way to get to know my colleagues and wrap up the trip. I didn’t have much time for exploring but the few sights I caught through windows and during shuttle trips made me want to visit Reno again soon!

  1. It’s a shame you didn’t get to do much exploring. I want to visit Reno sometime myself. I have a friend who went out there for college, and she has settled down there and is about to bear a daughter. If time and money were no issue, I would probably fly into either Sacramento or Vegas and drive to Reno, as the drive would be interesting especially from the latter.

Give me your two cents?
